The See Us in Action! Tour

Over the last couple weeks, our Business Services team kicked off the first two legs of our new See Us in Action Tours! From advanced engineering demonstrations and facility tours to employee testimonials, these visits showcase to state legislators how the Going PRO Talent Fund is helping employers across the U.P. upskill their workforce and keep high-quality jobs in the Upper Peninsula. Here are the two outings we’ve had so far:

On June 27th, Representative Greg Markkanen joined Erika Justus and Holly Peoples to tour GS Engineering and Great Lakes Sound & Vibration in Houghton to see firsthand how local manufacturers are growing talent, creating jobs, and driving innovation in the Keweenaw.

On July 11th, Representative Karl Bohnak joined us to tour IBEW 906 JATC and Upper Great Lakes Family Health Center in Gwinn in the morning. He got to spend some time touring the facilities, meeting with employees and leaders, and chatting with the electrical apprentices.

In the afternoon, Representative David Prestin and Senator Ed McBroom joined to visit Marble Gun Sights in Gladstone, and then UPMW staff had a special visit to Independent Machine Company in Escanaba. Thank you to these incredible businesses for opening your doors and showing the real impact of UPMW’s efforts to boost investment in talent and innovation, and to Holly and Erika for organizing these outings. It was a very impactful opportunity for our State leaders to learn about what the Going Pro Talent Fund is, what it does, and how they can help keep it accessible for U.P. businesses.

Next up will be a visit to the U.P.’s east coast at the end of September. Stay tuned in to this blog post for more information coming!
