Overcoming Barriers - A Success Story
Samantha came to Upper Peninsula Michigan Works! (UPMW) as a Nursing student at Northern Michigan University. She was trying to balance her last semester of school while working part-time at a local hardware store.
Even while working, it was difficult to come up with the money to pay for the cost of her NCLEX test, which would allow her to enter the workforce as a nurse. Upon meeting Samantha and assessing her situation, UPMW was able to assist her with the cost associated with her NCLEX and Michigan licensing fees, and even scrubs and tools! This support allowed Samantha to take and pass her NCLEX, become licensed, and get ready to work as an RN!
Samantha was the ideal participant. She was responsive and timely with the proofs and documents that UPMW required, and that allowed UPMW to process her needs smoothly and efficiently. When asked about her experience, Samantha said “I really appreciate Michigan works and you for all that you have done for me. It set me up so good for starting work and I wouldn’t be in as good of a place as I am currently without you so I am forever grateful!”
