There's An Easier Way to Enter the Trades with Building Trades Summer Camp
Get real world experience in a labor and industry approved program! Together, the Upper Peninsula Construction Council (UPCC) and Upper Peninsula Michigan Works! (UPMW) have been able to collaborate to allow students to learn skills of different trades in a hand-on, real-life setting.

How It Works!
STEP ONE
Meet the Requirements & Cover Your Bases
To apply for the building trades summer camp, you must meet the following requirements:
- Must be 14-17 years of age
- Must be an incoming high school freshmen-senior
- Must live within a 45-minute drive of Iron Mountain, MI
- Must have driver's license or reliable transportation

Meet with a Michigan Works! Talent Specialist
Before your interview, a Michigan Works! Talent Specialist will coordinate a time for you to meet. You will discuss your career goals, complete paperwork, and participate in interview/skills workshops to help prepare for the real interview! Get a head start for this meeting by creating your profile on Pure Michigan Talent Connect, the official job board for the State of Michigan!

Interview for the Position
Time for the real interview! Each student will be formally interviewed before being accepted a a participant in this program.

Safety & Financial Literacy Workshops
You will attend MIOSHA safety training and a financial literacy workshop leading up to the Summer Trades Camp!

Start Building!
The program runs from July 8th-August 14th. Students will work either the morning shift (7:30am-11:30am) or afternoon shift (12:00pm-4pm). A graduation ceremony will be held in August to commemorate your achievements!
