Finding the Career You Always Envisioned
Drake was attending class at the Delta Schoolcraft Intermediate School District (DSISD) and wanted to further his education and earn a higher wage. Upper Peninsula Michigan Works! (UPMW) is a close partner with DSISD and learned of Drake’s situation. After assessing the options, UPMW and DSISD introduced Northern Machine & Repair and offered Drake a work-based learning experience in Machining.
Drake was thrilled, but he still had barriers to employment that made it difficult for him to begin his work-based learning. UPMW assessed Drake’s situation and provided him with mileage, work boots, and tools to overcome his barriers to employment.
He completed his work-based learning and has now transitioned to an apprenticeship that has proven successful. Drake is very thankful for this opportunity that has provided him with a career in an industry he has always envisioned himself joining. Drake plans to continue to work for Northern Machine & Repair after his apprenticeship is complete.
