Job seekers from around the Sault Ste. Marie area attend an application drive where they had
the opportunity to apply to 90 employers.

Sault Ste. Marie, Mich.—On Wednesday, June 16, the Sault Area Chamber of Commerce and Upper
Peninsula Michigan Works! held an application drive at the local Chamber of Commerce building
on the Business Spur.

Over 50 job seekers attended the event and filled out a single application which allowed them to
apply to over 90 local employers. Positions ranging from Laborer to Branch Manager were
available to applicants.

“We had job seekers and employers participate from all corners of the Sault area,” said Mari
Schupp, Workforce Services Manager. “If you were looking for a chance to better yourself or your
business, the Application Drive provided that chance.”

The application drive strove to make connections between job seekers and employers in the
Eastern Upper Peninsula. By using one application for more than 90 open positions, job seekers
could apply for several suitable opportunities with ease. Likewise, employers were able to
advertise their jobs to all event attendees without needing to attend the event. This took an
enormous burden off employers who were already facing staffing challenges.

Job seekers, employers, and community agencies came together to make the first Application
Drive in Sault Ste. Marie a success. Through outside-the-box thinking, the Sault Chamber of
Commerce and U.P. Michigan Works! served over 50 job seekers and more than 90 employers.
Due to the success of this event, future Application Drives are being planned for other Eastern
U.P. communities. For more information about upcoming events, programs, and services, please
