Upper Peninsula Michigan Works! gets job seekers ready to win with professional attire donated during their clothing drive.
MARQUETTE, Mich—The Marquette County Upper Peninsula Michigan Works! office collected 335 professional clothing items during their recent clothing drive.
Michigan Works! staff will be distributing the items to job seekers who need them for interviews and on the job. The cost of work-appropriate clothing presents a barrier to financially disadvantaged individuals. Michigan Works! helps them overcome this barrier with the items they’ve collected throughout the clothing drive.
“After researching the real costs of clothing…these are real significant costs” said Tom Cory, AmeriCorps Vista Member. “We can provide value to our community through events like this.”
Upper Peninsula Michigan Works! staff will be distributing the donated items to their clients beginning June 14. Starting June 21, the public will be able to visit the Michigan Works! office at 1498 O’Dovero Drive in Marquette to browse the items and take what they need at no charge. Pickup hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and the last day to pick up items is June 23. Learn more about this event and determine availability prior to your arrival by calling (906) 228-3075.
A large inventory of lightly used professional clothing will be available to those who need it thanks to the success of the recent Michigan Works! Clothing Drive. Clients and the public are welcome to visit the Marquette Michigan Works! location between June 14 and June 23 to pick up items they need for an interview or their first day of work. For more information about the clothing distribution, call Upper Peninsula Michigan Works! at 1-800-285-WORK (9675).
