Like many events this year, the Heavy Metal Tours annual Manufacturing Day event has adjusted and will be delivered in a new virtual format. Instead of a large gathering of area 9th grade students arriving at Bay College West Campus for an active day of hands-on learning, a recorded message and a quiz game will be shared with local school districts for use at their convenience throughout the month of October. Winners of the quiz game will receive some manufacturing company swag and be shared on social media.

While the format has changed, our message has not. Students will be informed about the types of manufacturing careers available in the area and the educational path that can lead to success in these occupations. High school career and technical education courses give students the opportunity to expand their skills with hands-on experience, while in many cases earning college credits towards a certificate or degree. All of this is available at no cost to students through dual enrollment and early college programs, a collaboration between the Dickinson-Iron Intermediate Schools District and Bay College West.

The Heavy Metal Tours Manufacturing Day planning committee notes that this year’s recorded session has the potential to reach more students than the in-person events held the last two years since there are no capacity constraints.
