Seasonal Winter Job Searching in the U.P.

It’s that time of year! Seasons change, and so does the job market in the U.P. As we start the winter months, many seasonal workers are thinking about what’s next. We understand that transitioning employment can be a daunting thought, however, it is a great way to expand your skill set.

How Might a Seasonal Job Benefit You?

Seasonal jobs are a great chance to have new skills on your resume, to develop ones you already have, or even try out something you have a passion for. Perhaps you’ve never worked in a customer-focused job, or maybe you can turn an interest in winter sports into a career!

Seasonal employment might even be a way you keep mentally healthy during the darker months, as it can be long stretch of time if you’re waiting to return to work somewhere else.

Not every gain in a job must be monetary, although it does help!

Exposure to Different Career Paths

Maybe you’ve been looking to get your foot in the door in a new company. There are many instances of people landing a temporary job that leads to a full-time contract.

Retail, mail services, and restaurants are a great way to get your foot in the door in a seasonal role, even if they don’t keep you on permanently, perhaps you’ll have an open invitation for next season.

Or perhaps you’re unsure about going into a new field. Learning the ropes and trying it for a short amount of time at a seasonal job can be a great way to figure out if it’s something you want to keep doing or not!

What Opportunities Exist in the U.P.?

Retail locations and restaurants frequently hire for seasonal employment.

Seasonal employment opportunities could include ski hills and ice arenas. As colleges and universities calm down for the holidays, there will be more opportunities for serving jobs or other restaurant work.

What Should My Resume Have If I Am Applying for a Seasonal Job?

Applying for a seasonal job is no different than applying for a permanent job, you will want to tailor it around the experience you currently have that will fit best in the role you’re going for. And what organization can help you with this, and more?!
