Path to Becoming a Dental Assistant
Paige visited her local American Job Center to inquire about our services that she heard of through Bay College, where she was attending school part time. She was working concurrently at a local sporting goods store. Paige met with a talent services specialist (TSS) to complete an individual employment plan. During her interview it was abundantly clear that her dream was to start a career in dentistry. After following our funnel of services, she was enrolled as a WIOA Adult and approved to enter the Bay college dental assistant program. Unfortunately, Bay College did not have enough students to offer the class in the next semester.
The TSS promptly changed her tactics to include our business services team. A business services specialist (BSS) helped Paige write a resume and a cover letter describing her current situation and fervent desire to become a dental assistant, even though she had no training. UPMW staff provided her with a list of local dentists to visit. The first office she met with called UPMW the next day to learn more about our services and offer Paige an interview!
The interview was a success and Zubke Family Dentistry (ZFD) suggested she complete one day of job shadowing to see if she thought the job would be a good fit for her. Paige loved the experience, and they made her an offer the next day. UPMW collaborated with ZFD to set Paige up in an on-the-job training. Both parties are thrilled and ZFD stated our programs are phenomenal and they were completely unaware of them until now. UPMW is now working with ZFD to keep Paige on in a dental assistant registered apprenticeship. UPMW has also received two more calls inquiring about Paige and our services!
