David Smith chooses a new CDL career path through Upper Peninsula Michigan Works!
David Smith connected with Upper Peninsula Michigan Works! (UPMW) after being laid off from a position as a planner for a medical supply company. David held that position for five years and was being paid $26.10/hour. Through Upper Peninsula Michigan Works, David was able to attend a RESEA information session (Reemployment Services and Eligibility Assessment). RESEA is an awesome program that informs unemployment claimants quickly of the programs and services that are available to them to help them get back to work as quickly as possible.
At RESEA, David learned about the different services and resources available to job seekers like himself. Working with David, UPMW helped him enroll in the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) Dislocated Worker Program and we approved funding for him to go to CDL training at Northern Michigan University. David aced the course and became a truck driving instructor at the same institute that trained him: Northern Michigan University.
