Three for Three! Tritegrity Machine's Work Based Learning Success
Tritegrity Machine initially reached out to our Business Services Specialist, Steve, to ask about training assistance programs to help their business. Initially, we looked at enrolling an adult into an on-the-job training to get them skilled for the position, but it didn’t work out. Instead, we came across some students who were seeking work experience and were a perfect fit for work-based learnings (WBLs) with Tritegrity Machine.
The students joined the company in Machining/CNC Operator roles, but also learned many other roles for operating a machine shop. These young employees learned many processes in the shop, including programming and operating CNC Machines, technical skills needed in manufacturing setting, how to cut raw material, how to deburr parts, how to operate handheld and bench grinders, and they even received training for computer programming and performing shop cleanup.
These students have learned and are learning the skills to help them succeed in a growing Machine Shop, and they have secured careers that pay a livable wage. Many trades have an immediate need for new skilled workers, and machining is no different! Youth work experiences are a great tool to teach new skills, to keep young people living in our aging communities, and to fill important vacancies in skilled trades.
All three work experience participants are pictured above. Travis completed his WBL in 2023, Patrick completed his in 2025, and Shayne completed his work experience in the summer of 2026. Patrick and Travis were were offered full-time employment at the conclusion of their work experience contracts and accepted the offers. Shayne completed his work experience in the summer of 2026, prior to the start of his Senior year of high school, and is considering the offer to go back and work there full-time after he graduates.
Tritegrity Machine has been a great employer to work with! They teach these students skills they can use in just about any machine shop while giving them an opportunity to secure long-term, full-time employment once they graduate high school. Tritegrity Machine received the trained employees they needed, and three Upper Peninsula students found opportunities for the future.
