Sustainable Resilience: Impact Award Winner Lindah Mavave
Every year, the Michigan Works! Impact Awards recognize businesses and individuals across the state who have strengthened Michigan’s economy by creating jobs and developing new talent in their communities. This year, U.P. Michigan Works! is proud to honor Lindah Mavave of Hancock, MI for her resilience and effective use of community resources to create and build her business, Ageless Homecare. Congratulations, Lindah!
Lindah's Story
Lindah arrived in the United States from Zimbabwe in 2006, carrying with her a deep hope for a brighter future. Her path to entrepreneurship was far from easy; it was shaped by resilience, determination, and the support of several helping agencies like Upper Peninsula Michigan Works!
Our first interaction with her was through our Wagner Peyser services. At that time, she was a single mother of one, searching for a way to create a better life for herself and her child. Her journey was filled with challenges: jobs that did not work out, childcare struggles, housing issues, domestic violence survivor, and the fear of falling behind on bills. At one point, four months were overdue. Yet through every setback, Lindah held firmly to her faith and belief in a better future.
“I just want a path out of being on food stamps,” she told us. That desire for independence led her to seek help through her local legislator’s office and through UPMW programs.
We supported her with a range of services such as Wagner-Peyser, PATH, Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act, and various grants. These included resume assistance, job placement, tuition support, access to laptops for schoolwork, computer use at our service center, and referrals to the Small Business Development Center for entrepreneurial guidance.
She describes her experience with UPMW in two words: “sustainable resilience.” For her, that means the ability to adapt, recover, and thrive in the face of challenges while maintaining long-term balance.
In 2024, Lindah turned her dream into reality by launching Ageless Home Care. Her mission is simple yet powerful: to make quality care accessible to all. Today, her business serves communities across Michigan and Northern Wisconsin, providing personalized, compassionate home health care. Ageless Home Care specializes in supporting family caregivers, giving them the chance to rest while ensuring their loved ones receive expert care.
She never forgot her roots. In 2025, when she needed employees, she returned to UPMW for help. She hired a local PATH participant as an administrative assistant, offering someone else the same chance she once sought. Although the role did not work out long-term, Lindah valued the experience as an opportunity to give back.
Lindah’s journey proves that no dream is too distant when resilience meets opportunity. She turned setbacks into steppingstones and built a business that uplifts others. Her success shows what’s possible when determination is paired with the right resources, transforming obstacles into progress and creating ripples of hope throughout the community. Her story is call to action: when we invest in people and believe in their potential, we don’t just change one life—we ignite a movement that inspires entire communities to rise.
Her story is a testament to perseverance, hope, and the power of community support. Today, she is living the American dream—building a business that not only sustains her family but also uplifts others.
