On February 26th, Upper Peninsula Michigan Works! staff members accompanied Jobs for Michigan’s Graduates (JMG) students from the U.P. to Legislative Day at the State Capitol in Lansing! According to JMG, Legislative Day provides, “Civic engagement opportunities for youth, including direct access to State leaders, which in turn highlights the impact of JMG on youth, schools, and communities.”
As part of JMG’s Legislative Day, the Upper Peninsula students met with Representative Cambensey and Senator McBroom to share their story of how JMG has positively impacted them. They also had the opportunity to meet Lt. Governor Gilchrist. Between meetings, students participated in a scavenger hunt to explore the Capitol building and surrounding area.
Jobs for Michigan’s Graduates is a program whose goal is to reduce dropout rates with at-risk students. Tours, presentations, and education are used to meet that goal.
